Oxford Industries is a multinational leader in the design, sale, production and distribution of branded and private label consumer apparel. Over the past 60 years Oxford has acquired some of the world's most successful retail brands, including Ben Sherman and Tommy Bahama, and has increased its net sales to over US$1 bn. The company is based in the USA. Oxford's recent history has been characterised by a cautious, selective approach to distributors. The
company has carefully developed partnerships with a small circle of fashionable retail stores, and has bought high-end brands such as Ben Sherman, Tommy Bahama and Arnold Brant. By choosing its
partners carefully, Oxford has cemented its reputation as an exclusive, innovative market leader-"the right name" as its chairman and chief executive officer, J Hicks Lanier, put it in the company's 2006annual report.
In addition, Oxford's aspirational brands have increased the company's share of the retail market,
and ensured high retailer sell-through rates. Between 2003 and 2006, Oxford's sales rose by 45%,and its operating income increased from US$35.3 mn to US$98.1 mn. Having built a solid reputation
among America's most affluent customers, the company now plans to increase its product portfolio, and open new retail stores for its principal brands.
