Description

Jiangsu Sunshine Group, established in 1986, has grown rapidly to
become a leading international wool textile company producing yarn,
fabric and finished garments. It employs 6,500 people in 34 factories
located in Jiangsu Province. The company has the capacity to make
22 mn metres a year of high quality wool fabrics, 15,000 tons a year
of spun tops, 1.2 mn suits and separates, and 100 mn metres a year
of denim fabric. Exports are an important part of its business. Half of
all production goes to 20 countries around the world. Much
investment has also been made in research: the company has
developed China's only post-doctorate wool industry research station.
Publicly-listed Youngor Group is a textile and garment manufacturing
company which has diversified into other businesses, including real
estate. In 2003 clothing accounted for half of its Rmb10.1 bn
(US$1.22 bn) turnover, and production amounted to 10 mn shirts,
2 mn suits and 30 mn items of other clothing. Its leading product, the
Youngor shirt, has been the best selling shirt in China since 1994.
Exports account for just under half of all sales. However, the company
has started to export its own Youngor brand, which is already sold in
India, Israel, Japan and the USA. Half of the company's fabric
production is used for in-house clothing production while the other
half is exported.
